The Pickle Dog Disaster: A Disney World Boardwalk Resort “Fail” You Need to Know About

Hey there, it’s Autumn, your Orlando bestie and fellow snack adventurer! You know I’m usually the first one in line to try the latest, greatest, and even the weirdest (Pickle Dog) Disney World eats. My goal is always to help you find the absolute best treats for your next trip—which is exactly why I have to tell you about my recent experience with at Disney Worlds BoardWalk Resort.

I finally tracked down the infamous Pickle Dog, and let’s just say… it wasn’t exactly a fairytale ending.

The Concept: A Match Made in Snacking Heaven?

On paper, the Pickle Dog sounds like a dream for anyone who loves a salty-and-savory combo. It’s essentially a hot dog tucked inside a large hollowed-out pickle, dipped in cornmeal batter, and deep-fried. As a fan of the Citrus Swirl and the savory goodness of a Ronto Wrap, I was ready to add this to my Ultimate Disney World Snack List.

The Reality: A Rubbery Nightmare

The trouble started the moment I tried to take a bite.

While the batter was golden and crispy, the high heat of the deep fryer did something unexpected to the pickle. Instead of staying crunchy, the hot oil turned the pickle skin into literal rubber.

  • The Texture: It was impossible to bite through. I’m talking “trying to chew a bicycle tire” levels of tough.
  • The Struggle: I grabbed a knife and fork, thinking I could just cut it into manageable pieces. No luck! The knife actually bounced off the skin.
  • The Result: I couldn’t cut it, I couldn’t eat it, and I ended up having to perform surgery on the poor thing just to get to the hot dog inside.

Is it worth the hype?

Sadly, for me, this was a total disaster. While the flavor profile has potential, the execution makes it nearly impossible to enjoy without a pair of heavy-duty garden shears. Perhaps it was a “bad” pickle—and your experience might be better than mine!

If you are looking for a reliable, delicious Boardwalk snack, I’d suggest sticking to the classics (see Blue Ribbon Menu) or checking out my latest guide on Things to Do in Orlando for better dining alternatives.
