This is the month Orlando fully commits to its split personality — the heat and humidity haven’t gotten the memo that summer’s over, but pumpkin season is roaring in at full volume with three major events running simultaneously, a citywide cultural celebration kicking off, and one of our biggest dining events racing toward its finish line.

Theme Parks: the Festivals Keep Rolling & Two Events Overlap
September is peak “everything is happening at once” season in the parks. Here’s what needs to be on your radar.
1. Walt Disney World Resort: Food & Wine Festival Fills Out & MNSSHP Goes Nightly

- Booths keep opening: The EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival is still ramping up — Festival Favorites at CommuniCore Hall opens September 9, and The Wedge cheese marketplace joins September 18.
- Avoid these dates if you can: The four festival Saturdays — September 5, 12, 19, and 26 — are the busiest and priciest of the month, so a weekday visit will save you both crowds and cash.
- Deadline alert: Disney’s 30% room discount expires October 3, so if you’ve been sitting on a fall trip, this is your nudge to book, check Disney World official for dates.
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party runs a whopping 13 nights in September — September 1, 4, 8, 11, 13, 15, 18, 20, 22, 24, 25, 27, and 29 — with prices climbing from $149 early in the month to $184 by September 29 as dates sell out. Get discounted tickets here!
Insider Tip: Magic Kingdom closes to day guests at 6 PM on every single one of those 13 nights, so don’t plan a regular theme-park day around those dates unless you’re staying for the party.
2. Universal Orlando Resort: HHN Runs Five Nights a Week
Halloween Horror Nights 35 is officially in full swing, running Wednesday through Sunday every week in September. This is HHN’s longest season ever, and it marks the first time Killer Klowns from Outer Space has returned to a scare zone since 2019.
- Cheapest nights: Wednesdays and Thursdays sit at the low end around $88, while the Saturdays climb to $112-$114
Insider Tip: If budget matters more than the biggest crowds, a Wednesday visit gets you the same 10 new houses for noticeably less.
- Epic Universe hours are shrinking: Closing time drops from summer’s 9 PM down to 8 PM on nearly every day in September, with two exceptions — 9 PM on September 23 and an early 6 PM close on September 29. Build your evening plans around this if you’re doing a full park day.
- Two closures to know before you go: Fast & Furious – Supercharged at Universal Studios Florida is permanently closed as of August 17 — it’s just gone, and honestly I don’t think anyone will miss it!! Over at Epic Universe, the Broadway-style stage show The Untrainable Dragon goes dark for refurbishment September 15-20, so shuffle your Isle of Berk plans if that’s on your must-do list.
3. SeaWorld Orlando: Electric Ocean’s Last Splash
Electric Ocean, SeaWorld’s nighttime event, wraps its run on September 7, so this is your last real window to catch it this year. Meanwhile, the park’s much-hyped SEAQuest: Legends of the Deep suspended dark ride is still under construction with no confirmed date yet — keep it on your radar for later this year.
Eat and Drink: Last Call and New Openings
September is the month one of our biggest dining events wraps up while a new dining neighborhood quietly builds itself out.
1. Magical Dining’s Final Countdown
Visit Orlando’s record-breaking Magical Dining, with 188 restaurants offering three-course, prix-fixe dinners for $40 or $60, ends September 30.
Insider Tip: The good reservations are getting snapped up fast this close to the deadline — if you’ve had a spot on your list all summer, book it this week at magicaldining.com.
2. Mills 50’s New Restaurant Wave Has Names Attached
The Mills 50 (read my day in Mills 50 guide) building boom I’ve been tracking now has real names and chefs behind it. Udon Fifty, an udon noodle shop from Sonny Nguyen (the chef behind Domu and Tori Tori), is moving into the old Dochi space at 1222 E. Colonial Drive. Nomori, a new concept from Akasaka and Tapanomi chef-owner Dong Shin, is taking the old Saigon Market space next door, and Wavy Baby, a Filipino-inspired breakfast and sandwich spot, is coming to the block as well, though that one’s more of a late-2026/early-2027 opening.
3. Weekly Pop-Ups & Neighborhood Markets
The local staples never skip a beat:
- The Milk District’s Tasty Takeover: Orlando’s favorite weekly food truck block party, every Tuesday night.
- 4Roots Farmers Market: 2nd & 4th Saturday’s — Sep. 12 & 26th 9 AM to 1 PM
- Audubon Park Community Market: Every Monday evening — local produce, food trucks, art, and live music.
- Orlando Farmers Market (Lake Eola): Every Sunday, 10 AM to 3 PM — that’s September 6, 13, 20, and 27 this month.
4. ICON Park’s Newest Sushi Spot Just Soft-Opened
Fresh off the presses: chef Michael Collantes (of Sushi Saint fame) soft-opened Nomikai by Sushi Saint on August 19 at ICON Park. This is exactly the kind of quiet-launch spot that gets crowded once word spreads, so September is your window to try it before it’s all over everyone’s feed.
Insider Tip: Soft openings mean the menu and hours can still be shifting — call ahead before you make the drive to I-Drive.
Beyond the Parks: A Citywide Celebration and Fall’s First Signs
September isn’t just about the parks — there’s a major cultural celebration kicking off and a couple of only-in-fall reasons to get outdoors.
1. Hispanic Heritage Month Kicks Off September 15
Hispanic Heritage Month runs September 15 through October 15, and Orlando’s calendar fills up fast with mostly free programming: details at City of Orlando. The city’s art exhibit opening reception at Orlando City Hall’s Terrace Gallery kicks things off on September 15, 5-8 PM, free to attend.
Around the area, don’t miss the Sanford Hispanic Outreach Festival on September 6 and the Casselberry Latin Jazz & Art Festival on September 12, both free.
Insider Tip: If you only make it to one event this month, make it the downtown kickoff — it’s the easiest to get to and sets you up to know what’s coming the rest of the month.
2. Leu Gardens’ September Lineup
Free Admission Day hits Leu Gardens on the first Monday of the month, September 7, all day, no charge Leu Gardens. Fall Into the Gardens brings seasonal displays and a whimsical chicken hunt on September 12, paired with a family Craft Day the same afternoon. Science Saturday closes out the month on September 26 with hands-on exploration for the kids.
3. Wekiva Island’s Kona Luau
Wekiva Island says goodbye to summer with its annual Kona Luau on Saturday, September 26, from 6:30 to 11 PM — Hawaiian shirts encouraged, live fire dancers at 7 PM, $26 buckets of Kona Big Wave, and just $5 admission to the island with no extra ticket required.
