Grab your Minnie ears and your comfy shoes—here’s everything you need to know about planning your Disney World Monorail Crawl!

What is the Disney World Monorail Crawl?

The Disney World Monorail Crawl is an unofficial, self-guided tour of the three deluxe resorts on the Magic Kingdom Resort Monorail loop:

  1. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
  2. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
  3. Disney’s Contemporary Resort

You’ll hop on and off the monorail, stopping at each resort to enjoy a signature drink, snack, or experience. It’s like a bar crawl… but Disney-style! The best part? You don’t need a park ticket, so it’s a fantastic way to add a little extra magic to your Disney trip without breaking the bank.

What Tips to Know Before You Go

Here are a few key tips to make your Monorail Crawl smooth and stress-free:

  • Timing is Everything: Start in the mid/late afternoon or early evening. This way, you can enjoy sunset views and nighttime vibes (hello, fireworks!). The monorail typically runs until 11 PM or later, so you’ll have plenty of time.
  • The Monorail is Free: You don’t need a ticket to ride the monorail. Simply hop on at the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) or any of the participating resorts.
  • Resort Parking: If you’re driving, parking can be tricky. You can park at the Transportation and Ticket Center for a fee ($30) and start your journey there. If you have a dining reservation at one of the resorts, you can also park there for free. (Please be sure to have a designated driver!)
  • Pace Yourself: This isn’t a sprint! Enjoy the atmosphere at each stop and don’t feel rushed. It’s all about the experience.
  • Dress Comfortably: You’ll be walking a bit, so wear comfy shoes and clothes (like my favorite Disney park leggings with pockets—trust me, you’ll thank me later!).
  • Stay Hydrated: Florida weather can be hot, even at night, so balance those cocktails with water!

The Stops: Where to Go & What to Order

This order will be based on using the TTC (Transportation and Ticket Center)as your starting point.

1. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

First stop: paradise! The Polynesian Resort is a tropical escape that feels like a vacation within a vacation.

Must-Do: Make your way to Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto (or the outdoor Tiki Terrace opens at 3:00 and is a great option if you’re unable to get into Trader Sam’s). Trader Sam’s is an experience in itself—think themed drinks, special effects, and lots of laughs.

Pro tip: Trader Sam’s opens at 3:00pm and people are usually waiting an hour or more before to get in upon opening. Arrive early to get your name on the list!…as this spot fills up quickly! Depending on your estimated call back time: You may want to get back on the monorail to continue your crawl and come back later.

Be Aware: Getting into Trader Sam’s can be difficult and is not guaranteed! For more Trader Sam’s tips, click here.

What to Order: The Polynesian Pearl is a favorite (and comes in a cool souvenir mug), or sip on the Nautilus, a delicious rum drink served in a Nautilus!

Tambu Lounge Bar: This is another option while visiting the Polynesian. This bar is open all day and serves appetizers from 4pm-11pm.

Snack Tip: Grab a Dole Whip with rum at the Pineapple Lanai for a refreshing twist on a Disney favorite.

2. Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

Next up: is the Grand Floridian, Disney’s flagship resort. With its Victorian elegance and live jazz music in the lobby, this stop feels extra magical.

Must-Do: Head to the Enchanted Rose Lounge, inspired by Beauty and the Beast. This stunning bar offers cozy seating, beautiful decor, and an upscale drink menu. Hours: 3:30pm-11pm

What to Order: The Lavender Fog is a must-try for gin lovers, while the Garden Daisy is a refreshing tequila-based option. Pair your drink with the truffle fries or the mini sliders—you won’t regret it! Appetizers served 5:00pm-10pm

3. Disney’s Contemporary Resort

End your crawl at the Contemporary—it’s sleek, modern, and offers one of the best views of Magic Kingdom.

Must-Do: Head to the Steakhouse 71 Lounge, they serve food 12pm-11pm and have delicious cocktails. Or if you’re feeling fancy, grab a reservation at the rooftop restaurant, California Grill, and time it with the fireworks (8:00pm) for a truly magical experience. (Be sure to check the fireworks time, if this is a must for you.)

What to Order: From Steakhouse 71 Lounge, the Cocoa Boulevardier and Stack Burger are amazing! They also feature a seasonal cocktail.

Bonus Tip: If you time it right, you can catch the Electrical Water Pageant (8:25pm) from any Monorail Crawl resort—a perfect way to make it a special night. (This parade can be viewed from all 3 resorts!)

4. Back to The Polynesian

So you finally got your “Call Back” to get into Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto. Congratulations! I know it took some time and commitment to get into this hidden Tiki Bar. Relax and enjoy yourself at this immersive experience!

Helpful Tip: Walk back to the TTC. If you want to get back to the TTC from the Polynesian Resort and don’t want to get back on the Monorail Loop, it’s only about a 5-10 minute walk.

Tips for a Magical Monorail Crawl

  • Take Your Time: Don’t rush through the resorts. Each one has its own unique charm, so explore the shops, listen to live music, or just soak in the atmosphere.
  • Fireworks Viewing: If you’re crawling in the evening, plan to catch the Happily Ever After fireworks show from one of the resorts. The Polynesian beach and California Grill are both fantastic viewing spots.
  • Non-Drinkers Welcome: If you’re not drinking alcohol, no worries! Each lounge offers fun mocktails, and there are plenty of delicious snacks and desserts to enjoy.
  • Be Respectful: Remember, these are deluxe resorts, and many families are staying here. Keep the Disney magic alive by being courteous and keeping the fun family-friendly.

Final Thoughts

The Disney World Monorail Crawl is one of my favorite ways to spend an evening at Disney—it’s relaxing, fun, and gives you a taste of the magic without a park ticket. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion, having a date night, or just looking for a unique Disney experience, the monorail crawl is pure pixie dust.

So grab your friends, hop on the monorail, and let the magic unfold… one resort at a time. Cheers!
